Fire Warden/Marshals

QA Foundation Award in Fire Safety

This Qualsafe Awards (QA) qualification educates Learners in fire safety awareness. It includes how fires are caused, the risks associated with fire and what we can do to control fire risks in the workplace. The qualification covers fire safety management at work, fire safety inspection, fire safety risk assessments and the legal requirements related to fire safety in the workplace. The role of the fire warden is also incorporated in the course.

Intended audience

This qualification is for anyone who has a specific responsibility for fire safety in the workplace including fire wardens/fire marshals. It provides a foundation of fire safety knowledge on which employers and ‘responsible persons’ can build. It also increases the fire safety awareness of all employees.

  • Understand the hazards and risks associated with fire in the workplace
  • Understand how fire risk is controlled in the workplace
  • Understand the principles and practice of fire safety management at work
  • Understand the role of the nominated fire warden

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Introduction in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.

Requalification requirements

It is recommended that training is refreshed every 3 years.

Assessment methods

  • Formative assessments - a range of informal assessment procedures employed by the Trainer/Assessor during the learning process to measure each Learner’s knowledge, skills and understanding related to the assessment criteria.
  • Workbook - A workbook will be completed throughout the day or at the end of the course.
