Course Duration:The course can be delivered at the customer’s venue subject to the availability of a suitable area.

Requalification requirements:It is recommended that training is refreshed every 3 years.

Qualification overview

This Qualsafe Awards (QA) qualification is designed to educate Learners in the principles and practice of safer manual handling of objects. It outlines the reasons for safer manual handling, the legal requirements and the process of completing risk assessments to reduce the risk of harm. The Learners will get the opportunity to practice the principles of safer manual handling on their own, using equipment and as part of a team.

Aim

The aim of the qualification is to help Learners understand, practise and apply the principles of safer manual handling of objects. They can then operate in a safer working environment when moving objects.

Intended Audience

This qualification is for people who have to carry out manual handling tasks in their place of work including industrial and office based environments. It is suitable:

  • as an introduction to those starting work that involves manual handling activities
  • for those returning to work that involves manual handling activities
  • as safety refresher training Entry requirements There are no formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Introduction in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.

Assessment Methods

Due to the practical nature of this course, Learners should wear appropriate clothing and footwear, e.g. trousers and flat shoes.

The assessments are used to make sure Learners gain the required knowledge, skills and understanding, as detailed in the learning outcomes and assessment criteria. There are:

  • Practical assessments – observed by the Trainer throughout the course.
  • Formative assessments – a range of informal assessment procedures employed by the Trainer/Assessor during the learning process to measure each Learner’s knowledge, skills and understanding related to the assessment criteria.
  • Multiple choice questions paper/theory assessments.
