The STAIR (Specialist Training in Appropriate Intervention Responses) was developed within Sedgemoor College over 32 years ago. The system has been approved by Sedgemoor College and proven to work to keep young persons and staff safe in a caring environment for many years.

STAIR provides clear guidelines around anger and aggressive behavioural management, with emphasis being placed on de-escalating, defusing and breakaway techniques. Our approach to violence and aggression is through identifying and reducing risk factors, also dealing with personal anxieties, documentation responsibilities and legal aspects of intervention.

The training sessions give staff the confidence to deal with conflict, firstly to avoid it and secondly how to resolve it. To limit damage, both physical and psychological during and after any such event and to provide constructive help.

Our philosophy is to commit to calming skills, setting boundaries, interpersonal and team skills, staff support and skills for effecting behaviour change are taught through a range of learning styles.

We have provided training throughout the UK to: residential care companies, fostering carers, educational establishments and a range of public service providers.
